Manu Bhaker, Indian shooter and Commonwealth games gold medallist, has secured admission in Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College for pursuing her bachelor’s degree in political science.

The 17-year-old Haryana girl from Goria village of Jhajjar district had applied under sports quota for an undergraduate course.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) congratulated her on Twitter on Monday.

"Congratulations to our young shooting champion Manu Bhaker for getting admission in Delhi's prestigious Lady Shriram College in Political Science," SAI wrote.

Sources said that the Delhi University guidelines provide direct admission to athletes and sportsperson, who have represented India in competitions recognised and funded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, without the sports trial.

The competitions covered under this category are the Olympic Games, World Championship Games, Asian Games, Asian Championships by international sports federations, South Asian Games and Paralympic games by International Paralympic Committee.

Manu Bhaker, who is a multiple International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup gold medal winner and has also topped in the Commonwealth Games and the Youth Olympics.

In May this year, she also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a fourth-place finish at the ISSF World Cup in Munich.

Two years back, Manu Bhaker was in the news after the district authorities in Jhajjar had refused her arm licence.

Later, issuing the licence, the authorities had clarified that the licence was denied because she applied for self-defence, which could not be granted because of her younger age and she was asked to apply afresh for the sports gun licence.
