Major bus stops will soon feature airport-style digital display boards providing live updates on movement of buses,” Vij said while inaugurating an ultra-modern bus queue shelter near Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment.
Terming the move as a significant benefit for the public, he said commuters will no longer have to wait for buses while standing in dust and discomfort.
“Prioritising passenger convenience, the government is constructing 23 ultra-modern bus queue shelters across the city. These shelters are equipped with fans, lighting, ample seating arrangements and display boards showing bus timings,” he added.
Speaking to mediapersons, Vij said for the past 25 years, local buses did not have proper designated stops, forcing people to wait under adverse conditions. “With these enhanced transport facilities, a new era of smooth and safe travel has begun,” he said.
Vij said currently, 25 local buses are operating, of which 15 are e-vehicles, while some mini-buses are also in service. Buses have been instructed to halt at designated stops only.
He said strict action will be taken if buses stopped at places other than designated halts. Vij shared so far five such bus queue shelters have been completed, while the construction of the remaining ones is under progress.
The shelters have already been completed at Capital Chowk, Civil Hospital Chowk, Subhash Park, Babyal and Boh. Soon, the shelters will become operational at Chungi Chowk, Tundla, Defence Colony, Kalrehri, Shastri Colony, DRM Office, Sunder Nagar, Chandpuri Colony, Machhonda, Shahpur, BD Flour Mill, Hathikhana Mandir, Rangia Mandi Chowk, Nanhera, SD College, Mahesh Nagar, Tangri Bandh Mod and Dalipgarh. Roadways GM Ashwani Dogra, MC Chairperson Swarn Kaur, Vice Chairperson Lalta Prasad, along with a large number of BJP workers, were also present on the occasion.
