Grandfather’s care spurs Sirsa girl from Haryana to national glory
national-level volleyball championship held in Lucknow from February 7 to 9
Shakkar Mandori village in the Nathusari Chopta block of Sirsa celebrated a proud moment on Wednesday as Muskaan, who was raised by her grandfather, returned home after winning a gold medal at the national-level volleyball championship held in Lucknow from February 7 to 9. Muskaan, along with Poonam from nearby Ludesar, represented Haryana in the national championship, bringing glory to the state and pride to their villages.
Villagers welcomed the girls with garlands, music and traditional drums. The streets echoed with celebrations as the entire community showered them with praise. Former Sarpanch Dayaram Saharan said Muskaan’s achievement is even more remarkable because she lost her mother in childhood and her father several years ago. Her grandfather Krishan Kumar took responsibility for raising her, guiding her through challenges and supporting her dreams.
“Muskaan’s success is a result of her hard work, determination and the love and guidance of her grandfather,” adding that, “The entire village is proud of her.”
During the celebrations, villagers lifted Muskaan on their shoulders, honouring her as a symbol of courage and perseverance. The event inspired young boys and girls in the village, sending a message that dedication and focus can overcome personal hardships.
Deewan Saharan and other villagers expressed heartfelt congratulations, emphasising that such achievements should encourage youth to stay away from vices and pursue sports and education.
