Greater Faridabad emerging as NCR’s next ‘Global City’ hub
State plans smart, sustainable development on Gurugram model
Greater Faridabad, popularly known as Neharpar, is rapidly emerging as a major urban hub in the National Capital Region (NCR), with several infrastructure projects and development policies driving its transformation. The area has been identified as a key growth zone in Haryana’s 2026 Budget, where the government outlined plans to strengthen urban infrastructure and connectivity.
The push is part of a broader vision to develop the region on the lines of a modern “Global City”. While the Haryana Government’s flagship Global City project is officially planned in Gurugram, authorities are adopting a similar smart and sustainable development approach for Greater Faridabad to cater to its growing population and economic potential.
Urban Local Bodies Minister and Faridabad MLA Vipul Goel said the government was committed to accelerating the city’s development.
“The aim is to bring Faridabad at par with Gurugram. The city has potential but just needs push like Gurugram. The latest Budget has provided the same. Now there is no looking back,” he said.
Connectivity is emerging as the biggest driver of this transformation. In February, the Haryana Government approved the final alignment of the proposed 64-km Namo Bharat RRTS-cum-Metro corridor, which will connect Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida. The high-speed corridor is expected to significantly cut travel time between these major cities to less than an hour.
Another major boost for the region is the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar. The proposed Faridabad–Jewar Expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Greater Faridabad and the airport to around 30-45 minutes.
The region’s connectivity has already improved with access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which is attracting interest from logistics and industrial investors. Meanwhile, the long-awaited Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway is nearing completion and is expected to ease travel between Faridabad, East Delhi and Noida.
Urban planning is also central to the city’s expansion. Under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031, sectors 66 to 89 have been earmarked as a self-sustained sub-city. Sectors 75 to 89 are planned primarily for residential development, while sectors 66 to 74 are designated for industrial use.
In addition, initiatives under the Smart Cities Mission are introducing intelligent traffic systems, improved waste management and other digital governance measures to enhance urban services.
With improved infrastructure, connectivity and planned urban development, Greater Faridabad is increasingly being seen as one of NCR’s next major growth centres.
