The Sports University of Haryana (SUOH) at Rai successfully organised a Cricket Intramural Competition, with Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar (Retd IPS) emphasising environmental conservation by planting a sapling at the cricket ground.
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the first match by bowling the opening delivery and highlighted his commitment to nature through plantation.
“Environmental protection has always been an integral part of Indian culture. Today, every citizen has a duty to actively conserve and promote nature so that future generations inherit a clean and safe environment,” he said.
The competition saw participation from various student houses of the university, including Kanchenjunga House, Nanda Devi House, Kamet House and Everest House. All matches were played in an eight-overs-per-innings format. After closely contested games, Nanda Devi House emerged victorious. Sahil Singh, Fourth Semester, captain of the winning team, was named Best Player of the Tournament, while Jatin, Second Semester, received the Emerging Player award.
Indian wrestler Sarita Mor, Arjuna Awardee and Commonwealth and Senior Asian medallist, who serves as Sports Officer at the university, was present on the occasion.
The event was further supported by Yoga Coach Vikas Lathar, Cricket Coach Amit Saroha and Sanjay Goyat. Also in attendance were Dr Vivek Kumar Singh, Dean of Student Welfare, Dr Chetan Sharma, Assistant Director (Sports), Intramural Director Dr Sandeep Kumar, and the university’s teaching and coaching staff.
