Amid criticism due to back-to-back meetings being cancelled, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda has decided to hold a meeting with the members who have been supporting him to decide the course of action.

With the General House meeting, to be held today, cancelled, three meetings—including two General House and one executive body—have been cancelled over the past eight days.

Meanwhile, dissenting members held a meeting in Panchkula and sought Jhinda's resignation.

Co-opted member Baljit Singh Daduwal said, “The HSGMC president has lost confidence due to which he has not been able to get the budget passed and hold meetings. The members are of the view that the president should resign on moral grounds, and a new executive committee should be constituted.”

Senior vice president Gurmeet Singh said, “The meetings are being cancelled because the members don’t turn up and the quorum is not met. If the president doesn’t have the majority, he should step down.”

Akal Panthak Morcha leader and committee member Harmanpreet Singh said, “The current situation is sending a wrong message to the Sikh sangat. We appeal to all members to sit together and resolve the issues.”

Meanwhile, Jhinda admitted that he had been facing pressure from different factions and it was affecting the committee’s management. “A meeting of the executive body was scheduled for February 17 while the meeting of the General House was to be held on February 18. However, following the resentment by some members, and suggestions received that the meetings should be held after February 20, as the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission will pronounce its orders regarding the budget meeting on February 20, it was decided to cancel the meetings,” he said.
