Gurugram, December 9

In a bid to make its patrolling eco-friendly and get the City cops indulge in some much required physical activity, the Gurugram Police have introduced “Beat Cycle”.

The new initiative, which started from today, of patrolling on bicycles will also come in handy when patrolling in narrow and crowded lanes.

Today, in all police stations, two bicycles and helmets were distributed. Whereas, five bicycles with helmets were provided to Sadar police station.

According to the police, the main purpose behind the initiative was to maintain security, law and order, and keep an eye on the crime. With the City police patrolling on bicycles, they will be more conspicuous and thus it will help curb crimes taking place.

Every bicycle bears the name of the police station and the policeman to whom it is allotted. As per the orders, the police personnel are required to keep a stick, a note-book, and a flashlight etc while out on patrolling.

A senior police official said with the initiative, the policeman deployed to patrol on bicycle would remain healthy and physically fit and boost their well-being.

This way, a message would also be sent out to society at large to adopt eco-friendly means to commute from one place to another.
