Hansi to get major healthcare boost with 100-bed civil hospital
At present, Hansi has a sub-divisional hospital with a 50-bed facility for patients
The process to upgrade healthcare services in the 23rd and newest district of the state, Hansi, has begun, with the Health Department preparing a proposal for setting up a District Civil Hospital. The State Health Department has granted administrative approval for the upgradation of the existing 50-bedded government hospital to a 100-bedded District Civil Hospital.
At present, Hansi has a sub-divisional hospital with a 50-bed facility for patients. However, as per norms, the district headquarters must now have at least a 100-bed hospital.
Health officials informed that they had prepared a draft proposal for upgrading the government hospital to a District Civil Hospital and submitted it to the Public Works Department-Buildings and Roads (B&R) for further action. The B&R Department would prepare the budget estimates as per the proposal and then initiate the process of floating tenders for the construction of the new building, officials said.
Meanwhile, preparations to equip the government hospital have also begun. The B&R Department has started replacing the entire wiring of the old building at an estimated cost of about Rs 20 lakh. This is being done to meet future load requirements, as thicker cables and higher-capacity MCBs are being installed to prevent faults.
The Health Department currently has five acres of land in Hansi, which houses the existing hospital. Hospital authorities stated that expansion of healthcare services was required as the current infrastructure was inadequate to handle the rising number of patients and the increasing load of modern medical equipment.
The B&R Department has started replacing the wiring in the old building, which is about a decade old. Higher-capacity MCBs are being installed according to load requirements to ensure safety in case of overload or short circuits.
Following approval for the construction of the 100-bed hospital, the B&R Department is preparing drawings for the new building. “After approval of the drawings, a detailed estimate will be drafted and sent to headquarters. Once the estimate is sanctioned, the tender process will begin. Upon completion of construction, the hospital’s overall infrastructure will undergo a complete transformation,” an official said.
The proposed 100-bed hospital will include facilities such as general wards, an ICU, an emergency unit, operation theatres, a maternity and gynaecology unit, a paediatric unit, a pathology lab, X-ray and ultrasound facilities, a blood storage unit, a pharmacy, an oxygen supply system, and adequate doctor and nursing staff.
At present, due to limited infrastructure, serious patients are often referred to hospitals in other towns like Hisar or Rohtak. After the district-level hospital is built, most treatments will be available locally, providing significant relief to patients and their families, hospital authorities said.
Senior Medical Officer Dr Rahul Budhiraja said the Health Department submitted the proposal for upgradation of the government hospital after receiving administrative approval from higher authorities. He added that the construction of a modern 100-bed hospital is expected to provide better medical facilities to residents of Hansi and nearby areas at the local level.
The Hansi government hospital has sanctioned posts for two Senior Medical Officers and 11 Medical Officers, of which five Medical Officer posts are currently vacant.
