Expressing strong displeasure over the neglected 37.5 km stretch between Assandh and Kohand villages in Karnal district, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has suspended two junior engineers (JEs) of the Public Works Department (PWD).

The suspended JEs are Dinesh Kumar and Rajinder Arora, confirmed Raj Kumar, XEN PWD (B&R).

The suspension came after it was found that, despite a tender worth nearly Rs 21 crore being issued for the road’s reconstruction, work had not commenced on the ground.

The CM noticed the road’s deteriorating condition on Saturday evening while travelling through Salwan village after addressing a rally in Safidon, and immediately ordered strict action against the responsible officials.

XEN Raj Kumar said the tender for the project had already been allotted. While the contractor had initiated work from the Kohand side, the Assandh portion remained in a deplorable state.

Earlier, villagers had staged multiple protests demanding immediate repairs, but the department had failed to act. Following the CM’s intervention, repair work from the Assandh side began the next day, with potholes being filled.
