Chandigarh, October 21

As polling for 90 Assembly seats in Haryana ended on Monday evening, most of the exit polls predicted a clear majority for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Exit polls, broadcast soon after the polling ended, varied widely in their projection of seats for the rival alliances but an emphatic victory with more than two-third seats for the BJP in Haryana was the common theme.

The ABP-C Voter forecast 72 and eight seats for the BJP and the Congress, respectively, in Haryana. The CNN-IPSOS projected 75 and 10 seats for the two parties, respectively.

The poll of polls gave the BJP and the Congress 66 and 14 seats, respectively, in Haryana.

The projected performance by the BJP in Haryana is much better than the previous elections in 2014, when the party for the first time formed a government in the state by bagging 47 seats with a vote share of 33.2 per cent.

In the last Assembly elections, the Congress had got 15 seats with a vote share of 20.6 per cent. — With agency inputs
