Haryana to have para sports complex, 21 stadiums in different districts

Haryana will have its first para sports stadium, which will be set up by upgrading the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex located at Daulatabad in Gurugram district. Announcing this during his Budget speech in the state Assembly, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the sports complex would be equipped with international-level facilities and sports infrastructure suited to the special needs of the para athletes.“Twenty-one new sports stadiums will be constructed in Kaithal, Jhajjar, Charkhi Dadri, Gurugram, Kurukshetra, Jind, Rohtak, Faridabad, Yamunanagar, Sonepat, Fatehabad, and Palwal,” he added. The Chief Minister further stated that in 2026-27, a “Fit Haryana Campaign” would be launched across the state to promote a healthy lifestyle and fitness among all citizens of Haryana. This initiative will be launched by September 30, 2026. As per the Chief Minister’s announcement, internationally renowned coaches will be appointed to train the promising athletes in innovative techniques and help them win more medals.A synthetic athletic track will be built in each district. A Khelo India mini centre will also be established in each district, and its management will be entrusted to a former champion athlete.Under the Mission Olympics 2036 scheme, a talent search campaign will be launched across the state using scientific methods. Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed at the Assembly recently, the state government had conceded that an amount of about Rs 88.86 lakh allocated for sports activities had remained unspent since 2023.As per official information, the government allocated a total of Rs 16.38 crore for sports activities since 2023, of which Rs 15.49 crore have been utilised so far.A significant portion of the funds was not spent due to low participation of athletes and lapse of budget at the close of the financial year.Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala had also raised issues pertaining to players in the Haryana Assembly Budget session. He said data presented by the Haryana Government in the session had exposed serious negligence towards the state’s players and coaches.A large number of rejections and pending applications under cash award schemes, scholarships and sports quota jobs from 2019 to 2025 had raised serious questions, he said.
