The Haryana Government will soon start women-only buses under the “Chhatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana” on a pilot basis in Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Karnal and Kurukshetra districts.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made the announcement here while reviewing the progress of the scheme with officials of the education and transport departments. He said the special buses were being started keeping in view the security of girl students. He said women constables would be deputed in each bus to keep a vigil on anti-social elements. Initially, institutes of higher learning would be included for to and fro facility for women students. Later, other educational institutions would be included under this scheme.

He directed officers to prepare routes in such a manner that time and buses could be effectively utilised. He said girls should be provided transport using small vehicles wherever buses were not required.

He directed officers to maintain proper coordination for the success of the scheme and expand its scope.

The Higher Education Department would on Monday hold a meeting under A Sreenivas, Director, Higher Education Department, with principals and nodal officers of government colleges from the five districts to provide transport to women studying in government colleges. — TNS
