Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini launches AI Sandbox in Gurugram to resolve its civic crisis

In a transformative move to integrate cutting-edge technology into public administration, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched the Haryana AI Sandbox in Gurugram on Monday.

Designed to address complex governance challenges, the initiative aims to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure efficient, transparent and timely delivery of services, further strengthening the state’s commitment to Antyodaya, the upliftment of the last person in society.

The AI Sandbox serves as a collaborative, secure and controlled environment where government departments can present real-world obstacles, while innovators, startups and tech professionals develop and pilot practical AI-driven solutions.

By testing these innovations in a contained setting before wider implementation, the state aims to drive data-led governance that is both scalable and effective.

Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Saini emphasised that the initiative is central to Haryana’s role as a growth engine for the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

"For us, every application submitted by a citizen is not just a file; it represents a family's hope and aspiration," the Chief Minister said.

"Artificial Intelligence will be our tool to make governance more sensitive, accountable and responsive. It will enable better decision-making, helping us identify developmental challenges and resolve them with precision."

The platform is launching with five priority focus areas, including the enhancement of road infrastructure, education, healthcare and water supply services.

Saini cited the ‘Mhari Sadak’ app as a prime example, noting that AI can identify damaged roads through image analysis to accelerate maintenance. Similarly, in education, AI will assist in evidence-based teacher deployment, while in healthcare, it will help doctors prioritise high-risk medical cases.

The initiative is backed by the World Bank, whose Acting Country Director for India Paul Procee, lauded Haryana’s proactive leadership. "The World Bank will extend full support in strengthening AI skills and capabilities within the Haryana government," Procee affirmed, highlighting the state's forward-looking digital strategy.

During the event, Chief Minister Saini also honoured prominent tech leaders from Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft for their contributions to digital innovation.

Looking ahead, the state government plans to expand the sandbox to include sectors like agriculture, urban development and transport, cementing Gurugram and Panchkula as emerging hubs for AI-led governance.

By fostering a culture of innovation, Haryana aims to empower its youth to become not just job seekers, but technology-driven problem solvers, creating a brighter future for every citizen in the state.
