The district-level celebration of the International Gita Mahotsav-2025 began in Sirsa on Saturday with a traditional havan and Vedic chanting. The four-day festival, being held at the multipurpose hall of Chaudhary Devi Lal University, featured vibrant cultural performances on its second day.
Former Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Jagdish Chopra and former MP Sunita Duggal visited the exhibition set up by various departments. They urged officials to ensure that information on government welfare schemes reaches the public so more people can benefit. Sirsa Municipal Council Chairman Shanti Swaroop was also present.
Dr Subhash Chandra, CEO of the District Council and the festival’s nodal officer, welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the annual event.
Addressing the gathering, Jagdish Chopra said Haryana’s soil was sacred as it was here that Lord Krishna delivered the message of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. He described the Gita as a timeless and universal treasure not only for Haryana or India but for the entire world. He said that even practising a small part of its teachings could transform life into something as blissful as heaven.
