Hisar residents protest broken road, poor drainage
They have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging prompt action
Residents of Azad Nagar locality in Hisar have raised concerns over broken roads and a collapsed storm water drainage system, alleging that their repeated complaints to the district administration have gone unheard for months.
The residents, under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging prompt action and staged a protest at the mini secretariat.
During the protest, Kiran Sharma, a member of the Pagri Sambhal Jatta organisation, said water had accumulated on the streets for nearly six months, and local councillor Gulab Singh had failed to address the issue. She alleged that Haryana PWD and Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Ranbir Gangwa, who resides near Azad Nagar, had also not responded to their complaints. “Whenever we visit his residence to lodge complaints, his staff says the minister is not available,” she said.
Sharma added that they had approached the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) office as well, but the issue remained unresolved.
Krishna Devi, another resident, said the streets were waterlogged, and she had fallen and fractured her arm while taking her children to school.
Residents also highlighted the poor condition of roads in Amar Enclave and streets 23, 24, 25, and 26 of Azad Nagar. “Deep potholes fill with water during rains, resulting in muddy pathways,” Devi said.
They further noted that even on normal days, dirty water remains stagnant due to the lack of proper drainage, raising fears of disease outbreaks.
The residents warned that if adequate arrangements for the main road and drainage system are not made soon, they may launch a larger agitation in the coming days.
