The district police have arrested three youths in connection with the double murder that took place near the local mini-secretariat on August 8. A local girl, Mamta, and a police sub-inspector accompanying her were shot dead in a case of honour killing.

The biological as well as foster parents of the girl have already been arrested.

On Tuesday, her cousin Mohit alias Manglu and two suspected shooters, Pravit alias Prince and Prashant alias Toni of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, were arrested after an encounter with a police party.

As per the police, the youths had come to Singhpura village on Tuesday to kill Mamta’s brother-in-law Dinesh and his mother Saroj. The family members of Mamta, a Jat girl, were not happy as she had eloped with and married Dalit youth Sombir of Singhpura village in the district.

Rohtak SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said they got a tip-off that a car bearing an Uttar Pradesh registration number had been spotted near Singhpura village in the district on Tuesday morning.

Two teams were constituted and rushed to the area in which the car had been seen. On seeing the police vehicle, the occupants of the car fired at the police party and tried to drive away.

The police team also fired at the youths and one of them got injured. Following that, all three youths were nabbed by the police team. The arrested youths have been identified as Mohit alias Manglu of Taja Majra Gaddi Kheri village in Rohtak district and Pravit alias Prince and Prashant alias Toni of Meerut.

Six pistols and several live cartridges have been seized from the arrested persons. As per the police, Pravit, who was injured in the encounter, is a shooter of the Bhadauri gang of Uttar Pradesh and works with the Merchant Navy.
