Residents of Kohla village in Sonepat district are in shock after hearing that the ill-fated IAF plane which went missing on June 3 had crashed in Arunachal Pradesh.

Pankaj Sangwan (22) of the village, serving as airman in the IAF, was among the persons on board the ill-fated plane. The airman’s father, Dharambir Sangwan, is serving as Junior Engineer in the Haryana State Agriculture Markeeting Board in Gohana. Pankaj is unmarried and the only child of his parents.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday visited the village and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. He hoped for survival of the passengers on board the plane.

Hooda alleged that the transport plane had crashed because of its old communication system and bad weather conditions.

He said there was delay on the part of the government in conducting the search operation on a war footing. He criticised the state government as no representative met the bereaved family in a week.

Haryana State Backward Classes Nigam chairman Ram Chander Jangra, Gohana SDM Ashish Vashisth and DSP Hans Raj met the family on Tuesday.
