The authorities of Irrigation and Water Resources Department here have shut a bridge situated on Western Yamuna Canal in Khurdi village for heavy vehicles after a big crack developed on it.
According to information, the crack was reportedly seen by some villagers on Sunday, following which they informed the department authorities.
As per available information, the authorities visited the site on Monday and issued the direction to ban the plying of heavy vehicles on the bridge.
Irrigation and Water Resources Department SDO Ruban Garg said they had written to the authorities of National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, requesting them to find the reason(s) behind the development of the crack. “After receiving a study report from the authorities, the repair work will be undertaken,” said SDO Garg.
According to the locals, hundreds of vehicles, including vehicles loaded with mining minerals, pass through the bridge every day.
“The repair work should be undertaken as early as possible as it is the main route of transportation for residents of several villages in this area,” said Dinesh Kumar of Khurdi village. He said that the movement of heavy traffic had been stopped to avoid any untoward incident there.
