Hundreds of students stage protest at Murthal university
Vice Chancellor assures resolution of issues
Hundreds of students at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University for Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, on Monday held a protest against the university administration for allegedly failing in providing facilities to students.
The students ended their protest after a meeting with the VC, Prof Shree Prakash Singh, who assured them that their demands would be accepted. The VC, along with staff members, visited the university buildings to take stock of the situation, and directed the staff to resolve the issues within 15 days.
Hundreds of students staged a dharna at the gate of the VC's secretariat. Police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The main issues include lack of Wi Fi facilities for the past two years; dilapidated condition of the library; no power backup for the library and computer labs; and delay in software purchase.
The police stopped them at the gate, but the students were adamant to meet the VC. Later, the VC called a delegation of students for a meeting and formed a committee of seven members to sort out the issues regarding hostels. "I have directed the officials concerned to resolve the issues," the VC said.
