In order to facilitate students of the National Capital Region aspiring to pursue management studies, the authorities of IIM, Rohtak, plan to have a study centre of the institute at Gurugram from the next academic session.

“We plan to have an extension campus at Gurugram to cater to the NCR students. It will not require residential facility and only classes will be organised. If all goes well, we may start the centre from the coming academic session,” said the IIM, Rohtak, Director, Prof Dheeraj Sharma, while talking to The Tribune here today.

The director pointed out that of the 246 students who joined the PGP (postgraduate programme) course this year, 124 are girls. “A majority of the students are in the age group of 23-25 years. The batch comprises students from 20 states. There is also an excellent mix of academic diversity in the batch which has students from engineering, commerce, economics, management, humanities, and applied sciences backgrounds,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, the institute welcomed the 10th batch of the PGP course, the flagship programme of the institute, on July 1. The three-day-long induction-cum-orientation ceremony was attended by Syed Muazzem Ali, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Dr Subramanian Swamy, MP, Satya Pal Singh, MP, Kazitada Kobayashi, president and CEO, Canon, Shivinder Mohan Singh, founder, Fortis Healthcare, Alok Kumar, Adviser, NITI Ayog, and Neeraj Kansal, Commissioner, GST and Customs.

In his inaugural address, Satya Pal Singh, MP, talked about management of life which should lead to happiness. He advised the students to take care of all four aspects of life --- body, mind, intellect, and soul --- to achieve happiness.

Addressing the students, Syed Muazzem Ali maintained: “As future managers, you should pay close attention to the relationship with the neighboring countries because every country’s future is intertwined with that of its neighbors.”

Dr Subramanian Swamy observed, “MBA is not about a degree alone; it is about developing a mindset of rational risk-taking. You should free your mind from the irrational fears of the future and focus on developing self-confidence”.
