In 2025, 4,179 road victims availed of free treatment scheme: Haryana DGP

A Cashless Free Treatment Scheme being implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has benefited 4,179 road accident victims in Haryana during the year 2025.

Under the scheme, each injured person is entitled to cashless free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh per accident for a maximum period of seven days from the date of the accident. For the effective implementation of the scheme, 1,228 hospitals across the state have been empanelled, ensuring timely medical assistance to the victims.

Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal said making roads safer for the public is among the top priorities of the police, and efforts were being made through effective strategies to reduce accidents.

Under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, accident victims are provided cashless free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for a maximum of seven days.

Explaining the procedure, he said the injured person was taken to the nearest hospital, where the hospital management uploaded the details of the victim and forwarded the information to the police station concerned.

ADGP (Traffic & Highways) Hardeep Doon said between 2020 and 2024, 339 black spots were identified across the state. Of these, 109 had been rectified.

Additionally, with the help of the eDAR/iRAD system, black spots were being identified. A list of 183 black spots identified through this system was sent to the Public Works Department (B&R) in August 2025 for action.

Under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, 26,931 school buses were inspected across the state in 2025. As a result of violations, 5,909 challans were issued and four buses were impounded.

Similarly, of 600 illegal road cuts identified in 2024, 411 had been closed.

The police also organised 3,334 road safety awareness campaigns, in which 4,38,286 students and members of the public participated. A traffic quiz competition was also held, in which lakhs of students participated.
