In Gharaunda constituency, Assembly Speaker highlights importance of revamping MGNREGA to VB-G-Ram-G
Says it’s in interest of labourers and farmers
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan on Sunday highlighted the importance of replacing MGNREGA to Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), (VB-G-Ram-G) in the interest of labourers and farmers. “In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, it is essential for every person to become self-reliant and for villages to be strengthened at the grassroots level. The PM assured employment for labourers and empowerment of women through self-help groups. Keeping this vision in mind, changes have been made in MGNREGA in favour of farmers and labourers by renaming it as VB-G-Ram-G,” said Kalyan while addressing a gathering at RPIIT, Bastara, in his Gharaunda constituency.
He said under the revised scheme, the labourers would now get a guarantee of 125 days of employment instead of 100 days, along with weekly payments. The cost-sharing ratio has been fixed at 60 per cent by the Centre and 40 per cent by the state government. Work will remain suspended for 60 days during the crop season to ensure availability of labour for agricultural activities.
Kalyan highlighted the major development works carried out in the constituency over the past 11 years. He said fulfilling a long-pending demand of residents of Phurlak, the village road was widened from 9 ft to 18 ft and later to 35 ft.
He informed that construction of a medical university, NCC academy and a training centre for women of self-help groups is underway in the constituency. Several villages have been provided with chaupals and offices for the SHG women. A total of 17 schools have been upgraded to senior secondary level, besides construction of a girls’ college, ITI institutes, 75 new roads, hundreds of farm paths, village phirnis, and a new sugar mill in Karnal.
Kalyan said the construction of a road by acquiring land from the Railways in Gharaunda has benefited several villages, while another ITI is proposed in the Yamuna belt. To prevent floods, studs along the Yamuna riverbank have been strengthened. He assured that the pace of development would continue in the future.
