In Haryana, Panipat cops rescue kidnapped 7-month-old from UP within 30 hours, 3 held
Accused sold the infant for 'Rs 1lakh'
In a swift operation, a team of CIA-II of the Panipat police rescued a seven-month-old boy who had been kidnapped from the Chandni Bagh area and arrested three persons from Etah district in Uttar Pradesh within 30 hours of the crime. The accused had allegedly sold the kidnapped infant for Rs 1 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Salman, a resident of Siddhpura in Kasganj; Azad, a resident of Amanpura — both currently living in Bhainswal; and Mukesh Gupta, a resident of Karthala village in Etah, said Bhupender Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Panipat.
While interacting with mediapersons on Wednesday, he said that a complaint was filed by Sunder, a resident of Peepalgarh Chauthpur in Alwar, Rajasthan, who currently lives in a hut on Kala Amb Road in Amba Colony. He stated that he had gone to work around 9 am on March 9, leaving his three children with their grandmother, Mumtaz.
Around 1 pm, two men arrived on a motorcycle near the huts. They bought two packets of biscuits from a nearby tea stall and offered one packet to his seven-year-old daughter, Ashiyana. The accused then asked the girl to bring her younger brother, saying they also wanted to give him biscuits. When the girl returned carrying her seven-month-old brother, Manshubh, the two men snatched the baby from her and fled on their motorcycle.
After receiving the information, teams from the Chandni Bagh police station and the CIA unit launched a search operation. The police examined footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras installed in the area and along various routes. The suspects were spotted at two locations riding a motorcycle.
Acting on leads and intelligence inputs, the CIA-II team led by Inspector Virender traced the accused to Karthala village in Etah and rescued the baby safely. During initial interrogation, Salman and Azad confessed that they had kidnapped the infant and sold him to Mukesh Gupta for Rs 1 lakh. Mukesh reportedly wanted a son as he already had a daughter.
The police produced the three accused before a court on Wednesday, which granted two days of police remand. The police will try to recover the cash and probe whether others were involved in the crime.
The rescued baby was reunited with his parents, who thanked the police for their prompt action.
