In Haryana’s Yamunanagar, Wildlife Department intercepts mobike-Borne men smuggling khair wood
Smugglers escape, two-wheeler impounded
Wood mafia is adopting new tactics to smuggle khair wood in Yamunanagar district. A team of the Wildlife Department intercepted a motorcycle carrying stolen khair in the Chhachhrauli area of the district.
However, the smugglers managed to escape after abandoning the vehicle on spotting the team. Inspector Lilu Ram of the Wildlife Department said the department had received a tip-off on February 11 that khair was cut in the Darpur forest area and would be transported by a motorcycle.
He said acting swiftly on the information, a checkpoint was set up near Darpur village under the supervision of the Deputy Forest Range Officer. He said when the team tried to stop the motorcycle, the rider fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.
“During search, the team found three stumps of khair hidden under a bundle of grass placed on the bike,” said Inspector Lilu Ram. He said the wood was seized and further investigation was initiated.He said during the inquiry, the team of the Wildlife Department also recovered freshly cut stumps of khai from the nearby forest area, indicating that the wood had been recently felled. He said the accused had been identified as Alim, Talim, Akbar and Dilshad, all residents of Darpur village.
