Jind: In second such incident, mother of 9 girls delivers boy
On Jan 5, mother of 10 daughters gave birth to boy at Uchana
In a second similar incident within a fortnight, a woman of Uchana Kalan village in Jind district has given birth to a 10th child—this time a boy. The woman has nine girls.
Ritu, who was married 24 years ago to Surender, a resident of Uchana Kalan, was admitted to the Jind Civil Hospital yesterday, where she delivered the baby boy. She said it was her 11th delivery, as one of the girls had died after birth. Talking to the media, she said she was happy to have a boy, and would not go in for another baby now.
She said they had married off their eldest daughter, who was 22 years old. Ritu's husband is a daily-wage earner, and both of them are illiterate.
Asked why she opted for the 11th pregnancy, she said it was a unanimous decision of the family, and her daughters needed a brother to perform various rituals. She said after the birth of the boy, she had been receiving congratulatory messages from relatives.
While her eldest daughter was illiterate, the other girls are studying in school. Two of her daughters are named Kaafi (‘enough’) and Maafi (‘apology’). Asked about the names, she said they had had enough of searching names for girls, and hoped that God would listen to their wishes.
On January 5, another woman, Sunita, also mother of 10 daughters, gave birth to a baby boy at a private hospital in Uchana. Sunita, a resident of Dhani Bhojraj village of Fatehabad district, had 10 daughters in 19 years of her marriage.
Sunita’s husband Sanjay Kumar is also a daily-wage labourer.
Doctors who attended to Sunita (37) said it was a high-risk delivery as she was severely deficient in haemoglobin.
