The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) scored an easy victory in the Odhan Block Samiti in the Sirsa district elections after Opposition candidates did not file nominations, party officials said on Tuesday.

The samiti has 20 members, who were tasked with choosing a new chair. Eighteen INLD members voted unanimously for Abhimanyu, also known as Hanni, securing him the chairperson’s post. One seat was vacant following the recent death of former chair Manjeet Singh Chhatha.

INLD district president Jasbir Singh Jassa and Dabwali constituency head Mandar Singh Saran said the result showed strong support for the party in the region. Jassa congratulated all INLD winners, saying the party’s national chief, Abhay Singh Chautala, had sparked a “one-sided wave” in Haryana.

He said people in the state were now beginning to see INLD as the main alternative to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Jassa added that the Congress party was “failing everywhere” and losing public confidence.

According to Jassa, hundreds of people from various political parties are expected to join the INLD under Chautala’s leadership at an event in Chandigarh on Wednesday, which he said reflected the party’s growing popularity.

Jassa said the newly elected chair, Abhimanyu, would focus on development work in villages under the Samiti’s jurisdiction. He also thanked Dabwali Subdivisional Magistrate Mohit Kumar, who served as the election officer, for conducting peaceful polls.
