The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is set to hold a protest in Sirsa on June 2 against the continued rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and LPG, party leaders said on Wednesday.

INLD district president Jasbir Singh Jassa said the protest would begin at 10 am and thousands of party workers were expected to participate. A memorandum demanding immediate relief for the public would be submitted to the Governor and the government through the Deputy Commissioner, he added.

Jassa said the protest would be led by Arjun Chautala. He alleged the economic policies of the Centre and the state government had pushed people under the burden of inflation.

He said the continuous increase in the prices of petrol, diesel, gas and CNG had badly affected farmers, labourers, the middle class, small traders and employees.

Jassa claimed despite low crude oil prices in the international market, the government had failed to provide relief to the public and instead continued to sell petrol, diesel and LPG at higher rates, benefiting private companies.

He further alleged that despite rising inflation and economic difficulties, the government was not reducing excise duty and VAT to provide relief, but was repeatedly increasing prices and placing an additional financial burden on people.

Jassa said the rise in diesel and petrol prices had increased farming costs, severely affecting farmers. He added that expensive cooking gas and higher transport costs had made life difficult for labourers and middle-class families. Small shopkeepers, street vendors and private employees were also suffering financial losses, he said.
