Jewellery trader in Karnal looted of cash, gold; injured
Was attacked by miscreants when he was returning home
A jewellery trader was brutally assaulted and looted of gold and cash on late Saturday night in the Sector 16 area of the city. The trader, riding a scooter along with his brother-in-law, was attacked by miscreants when he was returning home.
Adik Patil, who is involved in gold melting work at Sarafa bazar, was heading home on a scooter with his brother-in-law Baban Mann. As per the victim’s family, Patil was carrying a bag containing around Rs 15 lakh in cash and approximately 1,500 grams of gold. As they reached near the community centre, two attackers suddenly came from the bushes and pushed the scooter from behind, due to which Patil fell down, while his brother-in-law ran to seek help.
The assailants attacked Patil with an iron rod, inflicting serious head injuries and leaving him unconscious. After assaulting him, the attackers snatched the bag containing cash and gold and fled on foot towards Namaste Chowk.
Some passersby later noticed the injured trader lying in a ditch. Without waiting for an ambulance, they immediately took him to the hospital in their private vehicle.
Patil told the police that the attackers were hiding in the bushes and struck suddenly, pushing the scooter and then hitting him on the head with an iron rod before fleeing with his bag.
DSP Rajiv Kumar along with teams of CIA reached the spot and started investigation in the case.
PSI Rajan said that multiple police teams had been working to crack the case. CCTV footage from nearby areas was being scrutinised. He assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
