Job scam allegations surface at BPS Women’s University in Sonepat
Complainant seeks action on 15 ‘illegal’ regular appointments
Allegations of irregular appointments dating back to May 2007 have resurfaced at Bhagat Phool Singh (BPS) University for Women, Khanpur Kalan, with a vigilance inquiry reportedly confirming violations. However, no action has been initiated so far against those allegedly involved.
The controversy pertains to the appointment of lecturers against a contractual advertisement issued on May 4, 2007, which invited applications on a contractual and negotiable salary basis through walk-in interviews for various subjects.
Vimal Joshi, former Head and Dean, Department of Laws, BPS University, has submitted complaints to the Governor, Chief Minister and Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, seeking “decisive action against illegal appointments as established by Vigilance inquiry and reiterated by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGHE).”
In his complaint, Dr Joshi alleged that 24 employees — including 12 lecturers — were appointed in various departments. These included five lecturers in the English Department, two in Education, and one each in Russian, German, French, Spanish and Sociology. Three teachers and five non-teaching staff were appointed on contract basis under the same advertisement.
Dr Joshi alleged that despite the contractual nature of the advertisement, lecturers were appointed as regular employees.
Professor Sudesh, Vice-Chancellor, BPS University for Women, said this is very old issue and a probe into the matter is underway.
