Karnal, February 22
A farmer destroyed his wheat crop spread over five acres in the district’s Mundigarhi village today in protest against the three controversial farm laws.
The farmer, Sajid Khan, said he did not regret his decision.
Villagers tried to stop him when he was driving a tractor over his crop, but he ignored their pleas.
“I am pained at the plight of my brethren. More than 200 farmers have lost their lives during the ongoing protest. In solidarity with them, I have destroyed my crop. I have no regrets,” Khan said.
During last week’s kisan mahapanchayat here, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait had urged farmers to focus on protest and destroy their crops, if required. However, after a farmer in Uttar Pradesh destroyed his crop, Tikait took back his words. — TNS
