Karnal MC’s Swachhta Setu app wins excellence award
Initiative lauded for enhancing transparency, accountability and real-time grievance redressal in issues related to sanitation and civic services
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has been conferred with an excellence award for its innovative digital initiative, “Swachhta Setu” app, aimed at strengthening citizen engagement and urban governance.
The award was presented by V Suresh, president, Good Governance India Foundation (Municipalika), on Friday to KMC Commissioner Vaishali Sharma, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar and other officials during the valedictory function of the 18th International Exhibition and Conference ‘Municipalika-2026’ on Safe, Smart & Sustainable Solutions at Bharat Mandapam.
The award was conferred in recognition of the KMC’s proactive initiative in developing the app as a digital bridge between citizens and the civic body.
Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar launched the innovative Swachhta Setu mobile application on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of the exhibition. The initiative has been lauded for enhancing transparency, accountability and real-time grievance redressal in issues related to sanitation and civic services.
Vaishali Sharma said the exhibition witnessed participation from policymakers, urban administrators, industry leaders, innovators and delegates from India and abroad.
She added that the KMC has set up a special stall at the event showcasing the city’s initiatives focused on cleanliness, urban development and sustainability.
Visitors from across the country and overseas appreciated the corporation’s innovative efforts in urban sanitation and civic management.
She highlighted that the exhibition demonstrated Karnal’s transformation into a smart, clean and modern city through multi-dimensional initiatives, including advanced solid waste management systems, effective water conservation measures, expansion of green cover, environmental protection drives, strengthened road and infrastructure development, expansion of digital services e-governance and others initiatives.
AMC Ashok Kumar said presenting Karnal’s achievements on an international platform like ‘Municipalika-2026’ was a matter of pride for the civic body. The participation not only reflected Karnal’s rapid development aligned with the Smart City concept, but also opened avenues for future technological collaborations and partnerships.
She added that a new team will be constituted soon to continue the department’s anti-drug awareness initiatives.
