Karnal Municipal Corporation passes Rs 347 crore budget, aims to make city cleaner and citizen-friendly
Mayor announces to hold pre-budget meetings at ward level to incorporate suggestions from citizens
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has unanimously passed a budget of Rs 3,47,13,45,000 (Rs 347 crore 13 lakh and 45 thousand) for the financial year 2026-27, while focusing on public welfare and infrastructure development. Officials believe this budget will accelerate Karnal’s journey towards becoming a cleaner and more citizen-friendly city. A major portion of this budget has been earmarked for basic civic amenities such as clean drinking water, sanitation and waste management.
Presiding over the meeting, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta described the budget as a milestone that will help transform Karnal into a modern, well-equipped city. She announced that from the next financial year, pre-budget meetings will be held at the ward level to incorporate suggestions from citizens and ward committees, ensuring that development plans reflect ground realities.
“Funds have been allocated to improve road infrastructure and street lighting, ensuring safer and smoother mobility across all wards. Special emphasis has been laid on cleanliness and public hygiene. Our priorities are green initiatives, including the development of parks and plantation drives to enhance the city’s environment,” said Mayor Gupta.
The Corporation has also focused on inclusive development, ensuring equal distribution of funds across all 20 wards, she added.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand welcomed the budget, calling it fully dedicated to the people. He emphasized that the funds must be utilised effectively and urged councillors to prioritise projects based on the needs of their wards so that benefits reach residents directly. He also advised councillors to visit the corporation office regularly to monitor progress and stay connected with public concerns.
KMC Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma assured that development works will be expedited and citizen grievances addressed promptly. She directed officials to resolve issues without delay and sought cooperation from councillors to ensure planned growth across the city.
Officials said that focus of the budget would also be on modernising the drainage system to prevent waterlogging during monsoon seasons. Digital and smart city facilities will also be developed to make Karnal technologically advanced.
Former CM and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s Karnal representative Kavinder Rana also appreciated the budget.
