Karnal police crack Rs 1.75-cr loot case, four held with 1.240-kg gold
1.240 kg gold, Rs 2 lakh recovered from accused
In a major success, the Karnal district police have solved a major loot case involving Rs 1.75 crore within just four days, by arresting four accused and recovering 1.240 kg of looted gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash and the two-wheeler used in the crime.
The breakthrough was achieved by a joint team of the CIA-1 led by inspector Sandeep Kumar, and the CIA-3 led by inspector Ajay. Working on all leads, the team members apprehended all four accused involved in this incident, said DSP Rajiv Kumar, while interacting with mediapersons on the CIA-1 premises on Friday.
The accused were identified as Prince, a resident of Sector 6, Karnal, Dinesh, a resident of Naiyon Wala Mohalla, Karnal, Parveen Kumar, a resident of Rajpura village, Ambala district, and Prateek, a resident of Sonia Colony, Ambala Cantt, the DSP said.
Prince and Dinesh were arrested from Karnal on Thursday, while Parveen and Prateek were arrested from Ambala, he said. The accused were produced in the court which sent Dinesh to judicial custody, while other three accused were remanded into police custody for three days.
Baban Govind Mani had filed a complaint with the police that he and his brother-in-law were engaged in gold melting work in the Sarafa Bazar, the DSP said. On January 3 night, while returning home after work, they were attacked by three to four unidentified persons near the Sector-16 community centre, the complainant stated. The accused looted gold and cash from the victims before fleeing from spot, the DSP said. Based on Baban Govind Mani’s complaint, an FIR was registered at the city police Station on January 4 under relevant sections, the DSP said.
Narender Bijarniya, Superintendent of Police (SP), Karnal, assigned the case to a special team comprising both the CIAs, which arrested the accused.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that accused Dinesh and Prince were working at a jewellery shop in the Sarafa Bazar. They conspired with their accomplices and looted victims, the DSP said, while adding that further investigation in the case was in progress.
