Faridabad: The inauguration of the C20 Summit on Integrated Holistic Health at Amrita Hospital here recently by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also emerged as an event where he agreed that the state had shortage of doctors and it did not meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) standards. The CM in his address said that the state had only 13,000 doctors, while as per the WHO standards, the number was short by 15,000. This issue was formally acknowledged perhaps for the first time since 2014. With the move to set up a medical college in every district, the number of MBBS seats in the state will go up soon, it was claimed. The event was also addressed virtually by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General, WHO.

Morning walkers’ entry at HAU restricted

Hisar: As President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Hisar to attend the convocation of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), the varsity authorities have restricted the entry of the morning walkers on the campus. The HAU campus is a preferred spot for morning walkers from adjoining and far-off localities. A security person at the entrance told the walkers on Sunday morning not to come to the campus from Monday.

‘Dhanna Jaat’ anniversary to be celebrated

Hisar: Former state BJP president Subhash Barala visited Bhiwani to extend invitation of the ‘Dhanna Jaat jayanti’. It is scheduled to be celebrated in Dhanori village of Kaithal district on April 23. While the BJP-JJP Government maintains that they are celebrating great personalities who were forgotten during the Amrit Mahotsav, political observers see it as an attempt to reach out to the communities which are feeling ‘left out’. Barala refuted these allegations, stating that the BJP had been adopting an inclusive approach and such celebrations were aimed at remembering these personalities so that today’s youth could get to know their contribution in nation building.

Ranjit Singh to contest next elections

Hisar: Energy and Jails Minister Ranjit Singh seems eager to contest the next elections on a BJP ticket. Singh, who was elected as an Independent candidate from the Rania Assembly (Sirsa) in 2019 and joined the government as a minister with unconditional support, is preparing for the next Assembly election. Though the BJP had fielded Ram Chander Kamboj as the party candidate in 2019, he was defeated by Singh. It will be interesting to see if the BJP prefers to field Kamboj or Ranjit Singh, who is still an Independent MLA.

Gurnam reassesses political grounds

Kurukshetra: Despite an unsuccessful attempt as an Independent candidate in the last Assembly election from the Ladwa constituency in Kurukshetra, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh has again started assessing the political situation. Singh was last year appointed the president of the Bharat Rashtra Kisan Samithi, the farmer wing of Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). While the BRS has started its operations in Maharashtra, it is yet to enter Haryana. Gurnam recently held a meeting and decided to chalk out a strategy before giving any call for the polls next year.
