Khattar commissions 11.5 MW solar plants at Bhiwani, Hisar
Projects to generate 21 million units of power annually
Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday inaugurated 11.5 MW ground-mounted solar power projects at substations of the BBMB in Bhiwani and Hisar.
The BBMB has long played a key role in hydroelectric power generation and water distribution among partner states — Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh — supporting irrigation and energy supply in the region.
With the commissioning of these solar projects, the Board has expanded into renewable energy. The plants have been developed at a cost of Rs 53.50 crore on vacant land at the substations.
The projects include a 10 MW solar plant at Bhiwani, connected at 132 kV, and a 1.5 MW plant at Hisar, connected at 33 kV. The installations comprise over 25,648 high-efficiency 550 Wp photovoltaic modules and advanced inverters. The plants are expected to achieve a capacity utilisation factor of about 21 per cent and generate nearly 21 million units of electricity annually.
The generated power will be distributed among partner states as per existing shares — Haryana (5.094 MW), Punjab (2.84 MW) and Rajasthan (2.61 MW). The projects are expected to reduce nearly 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually while contributing to India’s renewable energy targets.
Manoj Tripathi, chairman of the BBMB, said, “These projects exemplify BBMB's commitment to sustainability, transforming unused land into a powerhouse of green energy for generations.”
The inauguration ceremony was attended by BBMB Member (Power) and Chief Engineer (Generation) Jagjeet Singh, Chief Engineer (System Operation) Harpreet Singh Manocha and Chief Engineer (Transmission System) Surjeet Singh.
