Professor Maha Singh Poonia, Head of the Hindi Department at the Institute of Indian History and Culture Studies (IIHS), Kurukshetra University, was felicitated with the India-Sri Lanka Hindi Honour Award for his contribution to culture and Hindi literature. He was awarded on the occasion of World Hindi Day at the second India-Sri Lanka Hindi Conference, organised in Colombo recently.
Kurukshetra University’s Deputy Director (Public Relations) Dr Jimmy Sharma informed that Prof Poonia was invited to Colombo by the North-East Hindi Academy as a distinguished speaker. The conference, organised to mark World Hindi Day, was presided over by India’s High Commissioner to Colombo, Santosh Jha.
On this occasion, the president of the Sri Lanka Foundation, Sita Bhandaranayake, Deputy High Commissioner Satya Arjun Pandey, along with many litterateurs and cultural critics from various Sri Lankan universities, were present.
Prof Poonia has also been honoured several times at national and international levels for his contributions to the promotion of Hindi and service to literature and culture.
Prof Poonia has published more than 1,000 articles on the culture of Haryana, authored more than 15 books and published over 60 research papers on Haryana’s folk literature and culture.
