Prof Sachdeva said the grant would usher in a transformative phase in Haryana’s sporting history. “This financial support will play a vital role in modernising sports facilities at the university in line with global benchmarks. Kurukshetra University has always been at the forefront of education and sports, and through this centre, we aim to groom future champions capable of competing at platforms like the Olympics,” he said.

The initiative aims at providing scientific training to young athletes from Kurukshetra and nearby areas, preparing them for international competitions. The Vice-Chancellor said the focus would extend beyond infrastructure to include nutrition and mental health support, with special emphasis on hockey, basketball and boxing.

Director of Sports Prof DS Rana said the hockey Astroturf built under the Khelo India and state schemes had been completed, while a modern shooting range was under construction and would be equipped with advanced facilities. He said plans included upgrading floodlights at basketball and volleyball courts, installing synthetic flooring in the indoor hall, adding an international-standard boxing ring, and completing an all-weather swimming pool. Work on a synthetic athletic track would begin soon, and a dedicated archery range had also been developed on the campus.

Deputy Director, Public Relations, Dr Jimmy Sharma said the university already had a big sports complex with international-standard facilities, which would be further modernised under the new scheme to strengthen Kurukshetra University’s standing as a centre of sports excellence.
