Kurukshetra, January 12
The Kurukshetra University has cleared the way to appoint Dean of Examination Affairs (DEA).
The Executive Council (EC) of the university pass a resolution yesterday allowing a professor to be posted in the newly-formed office meant to streamline the examination branch of the state’s oldest university. The DEA will be a non-remunerative post and it will be given as an additional assignment to a serving teacher.
The KU had appointed a senior faculty member from the department of psychology as the DEA in May, 2016. But the Governor, who is the ex-officio Chancellor of KU, had overruled the appointment as there was no provision for the post in the university calendar.
The university argued that a new post was needed to handle the mammoth working in the examination branch. Delay in the declaration of exams and the alleged discrepancies in the secrecy branch have dented the image of the KU.
After getting a formal nod from the EC, the KU can now post any professor as the DEA for a period of two years. The duration can be extended by a year. The EC clarified that the duties and responsibilities of the DEA would not clash with the office of Controller of Examination as the Dean would be responsible for coordination among different sections of the examination branch.
The DEA will liaison with various on-campus departments and affiliating colleges for timely declaration of the results.
Five-day week
The EC has approved five-day week formula for the teaching staff. The same has been sent to the state government for its approval. The non-teaching staff on the campus work five days a week following complaint from teachers that they faced difficulty in conducting laboratory classes on Saturdays. The recommendation will end disparity between the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Misuse of social media
Taking note of KU staffers indulging in posting objectionable material on various social media platforms, the EC has restrained the university employees from criticising university authorities or any other employee online. The rule was framed with the consent of seven-member panel, including the presidents of teaching and non-teaching employees associations.
