Kurukshetra court sentences Himachal man to 10 years for opium trafficking
Court imposes Rs 1 lakh fine; convict was arrested with 4.5 kg opium by Anti-Narcotics Cell
The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kurukshetra, has sentenced an opium trafficker to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The Fast Track Special Court for trial of offences under the NDPS Act, presided over by Amit Sahrawat, convicted Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, under Section 18 of the NDPS Act.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.
According to information, on January 18, 2022, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Kurukshetra Police received information about a truck driver from Himachal Pradesh involved in smuggling opium.
The accused reportedly transported goods from Himachal to West Bengal and carried opium on the return journey. Acting on the tip-off, police spotted the truck parked near an eatery on National Highway-44.
During inspection, around 4.5 kg of opium was recovered, and a case was registered at Thanesar Sadar Police Station under the NDPS Act.
