“Livestock farming is a strong pillar of the agricultural economy of the country. Over 8 crore families in the country are directly associated with the livestock farming sector, and it plays an important role in rural development. The livestock exhibition presents a picture of the new India. The livestock farmers are being honoured and motivated to further boost this sector, identify and bring superior cattle breeds”, he said.

“Haryana possesses just over 2 per cent of the bovine population of the country but contributes more than 5 per cent in the country’s total milk production. Efforts are being made to improve the skills of livestock farmers and soon an animal health checkup camp will be organised here to screen the animals for various diseases, including the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Sincere efforts are being made to provide high quality sex sorted semen for cattle breeding”, Jindal added.

He called on the livestock farmers and the Animal Husbandry Department for documentation of the pedigree for cattle for better results and said, “For high quality, we should have the complete knowledge of cattle pedigree. We will discuss the matter with the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department if the microchips can be used in this regard. The livestock farmers should use the latest technology for better healthcare of the animals, higher milk production and controlling the population of animals, to decrease the number of stray animals. The gaushalas also have an important role to play in this sector.”
