Armed Forces Veterans Day was observed in Kurukshetra on Wednesday, with veterans from the Army, Navy and Air Force paying tribute to soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
The veterans gathered at Saheed Smarak Kurukshetra, located in the District Mini Secretariat complex, where they offered floral tributes to martyrs who made supreme sacrifices in various military operations and actions.
Later, a meeting was held at the Zila Sainik and Ardh Sainik Board, Kurukshetra, under the supervision of Subedar R.R. Sharma (Retd), Welfare Organiser of the Board. During the meeting, welfare schemes for veterans and their dependents were discussed and highlighted.
Air Force veteran Ravi Bhushan said Armed Forces Veterans Day is observed across the country to mark the birth anniversary of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa. Senior veterans aged 70 years and above were also honoured on the occasion.
During the meeting, it was decided to form a district-level WhatsApp group to ensure timely dissemination of information on welfare schemes announced by the central and state governments for veterans and their dependents.
