Kurukshetra students honour spirit of service through essay-writing contest

An essay-writing competition was organised by the Youth Red Cross Society at Dayanand Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Kurukshetra, to mark the World Red Cross Day on Friday.

Dr Sonia Rani, Coordinator of the Youth Red Cross Society, stated that 15 students from various streams of the college participated in the competition covering various themes.

In this competition, Kumkum Mittal (BA) secured the first position; Savita (BSc) secured the second position; Neeru (BA) secured the third position; and Shikha (BA) received a consolation prize.

Dr Manjeet Kaur, Dr Deepa and Dr Seema served as the panel of judges for the competition.

Principal Dr Upasana Ahuja lauded the efforts of all the participants and congratulated the winners.

She remarked that the significance of the Red Cross is indispensable, as it works globally — while maintaining neutrality — to save human lives and deliver humanitarian aid during times of war, natural disasters and pandemics. It ensures the protection and assistance of vulnerable populations worldwide through disaster relief, blood services, first-aid and health education, she added.

Sharing her thoughts on the theme of World Red Cross Day 2026 — ‘Keeping Humanity Alive’, she noted that the theme is dedicated to the humanitarian endeavours of the volunteers and staff who render selfless service during times of crisis, conflict and disaster. “Therefore, it is incumbent upon all of us to make our full contribution towards realising the objectives of the Red Cross by working with a spirit of service, cooperation and humanity,” she said.
