Kurukshetra: As various farmer unions announce separate dates and styles for protests against the India-US trade deal, the lack of coordination and unity among them has become a common and pressing question for their leaders. Though leaders have skilfully dodged the issue to avoid a war of words, differences are evident. Hisar: Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Digvijay Chautala took a swipe at Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who has been campaigning in Punjab for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Assembly polls. Chautala, during a Sunday visit to Bhiwani, urged Saini to clarify his position on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) issue. He noted that when BJP leaders in Punjab oppose sharing water with Haryana, the Chief Minister should state his stand publicly while seeking votes there. Chautala also sought Saini’s response on Chandigarh’s status.
Haryana CM urged to keep replies short
Chandigarh: Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has developed a penchant for marathon speeches in the state assembly. His reply on alleged fraudulent recruitments in HPSC and HSSC lasted nearly two and a half hours, while his response to the Governor’s address exceeded two hours. The main Opposition Congress is exasperated, accusing the CM of dodging their questions. In one instance, an MLA folded his hands, pleading for brevity. Congress MLAs initially escaped via walkouts, but the BJP turned these into political ammunition, forcing the Opposition to endure the verbal marathons.
