The suicide by an SC youth, Rajesh, in the city police post here a week ago has taken a political colour. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Hooda and Jhajjar MLA Geeta Bhukkal on Monday visited the bereaved family to express their condolences.

Kejriwal demanded a CBI inquiry into the case, adequate monetary aid for Rajesh’s family, a government job to a member of the family and stern action against police officials responsible for the death. Deepender, for his part, assured the family of getting them justice.

“The state has witnessed a sharp rise in cases of atrocities on SCs during the BJP government. Since Rajesh was the sole breadwinner of the family. So, the government should provide the family with ample financial help,” Kejriwal told the media.

Earlier, Rajesh’s mother Krishna told the Delhi Chief Minister that the police informed her about her son’s death after several hours. “My son cannot commit suicide. He has been murdered,” she claimed.

Rajesh, an auto-rickshaw driver, reportedly ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in the city police post on November 27.

He was brought to the police post by an elderly man, Vishnu, in connection with his grandson who reportedly went missing on November 14. The police later booked Vishnu on charges of abetment to suicide on the complaint of Krishna.

Jhajjar SP Pankaj Nain said Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate was inquiring into the matter and action would be taken against those found guilty.
