The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) on Wednesday described the #MeToo movement as a brave act which, it said, would go a long way in empowering and encouraging women.
It expressed concern over more and more women recounting their ordeals of sexual harassment by men at the helm in different fields.
“The HSCW has been taking notice of sexual harassment of women at workplace. I assure all women, who have gone through such assaults in their previous or present employment, that the commission will safeguard their rights,” said Preeti Bhardwaj, vice-chairperson, HSCW.
She said further the HSCW appreciated the courage shown by women by naming the perpetrators of sexual harassment.
“We encourage women to lodge complaints with the police and the women’s commission. The HSCW will see to it that cases, if registered, will reach a logical conclusion. This way, we can make a new beginning,” Bhardwaj said.
To expedite #MeToo complaints, the HSCW has started an email address, [email protected], where victims of sexual harassment can file their complaints.
“The commission condemns any act of sexual harassment and is committed to ensure safety and dignity of women,” Bhardwaj said.
