Lok Kala Utsav concludes on vibrant note at Sonepat varsity

The festival was organised under the joint aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India; North Zone Cultural Centre; Dharm Putra Kala Manch; and the Department of Student Welfare. Social worker Dr Rita Sharma graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Vikrant Singh attended as the guest of honour, while Ravindra Sharma was also present. The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor (Prof) Sudesh.

In her address, Dr Rita Sharma emphasised that folk arts were the foundation of cultural identity and must be preserved and promoted. She highlighted that such events played a crucial role in connecting the younger generation with their roots.

Advocate Ram Kumar Mittal, who attended as the keynote speaker, remarked that folk art was not merely a form of entertainment but a powerful medium to unite society and strengthen national integration.

Throughout the festival, teams from various states presented colourful folk dances and songs. Performances included Punjab’s Luddi, Haryana’s traditional Ghoomar, Assam’s Bardoi Shikla, Maharashtra’s Lavani, Rajasthan’s Chari dance and Uttar Pradesh’s Dedia dance. A folk band from Punjab and singer Gurleen Kaur captivated the audience, leaving them enthralled.

President of Dharm Putra Kala Manch, Manoj Jale, expressed that the organisation of the event at the university had further energised their efforts. He credited the the three-year success of the festival to the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor.

Registrar (Prof) Shivalik Yadav, Prof Hawa Singh, Dean Student Welfare (Prof) Shweta Singh, Deputy Dean Dr Jagdeep Singla, along with Dr Ishani, Dr Monica, organisers Aman and Sam Bhardwaj, and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
