Maldivian delegation briefed on working of Gurugram Development Authority

A 30-member delegation from the Republic of Maldives visited the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) office on Tuesday as part of a capacity building programme on the Smart City Mission for ministers and officials of Maldives, being conducted by the National Centre for Good Governance, Government of India.

During the visit, delegates were briefed on the working and organisational structure of the GMDA, and initiatives being taken up by the authority with an aim to transform Gurugram into a modern, well-planned and technology-driven Smart City.

Senior GMDA officials apprised the visiting delegation of various ongoing works, including those pertaining to development of road infrastructure; strengthening of water supply, drainage and sewerage systems; enhancing mobility and public transport services in the city; and boosting surveillance and traffic management via a CCTV camera network.

The delegation was also given a tour of the Integrated Command and Control Centre, where they were shown how smart technology and real-time data systems adopted by the GMDA are being used to strengthen improve traffic flow, enhance public safety and ensure efficient delivery of civic services for the benefit of the public at large.

As part of the exposure visit, the Maldivian officials toured the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Behrampur, where they were explained processes adopted by the GMDA to promote sustainable wastewater management, and boost usage of treated waste water for non-potable purposes in the city.
