Fatehabad man gets 20 years in jail for rape of minor girl
Fatehabad court also imposes Rs 170,000 fine
A fast-track court in Fatehabad on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 14-year-old girl. The judgment was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge, Fast-track Court, Amit Garg, who held Abhijeet, a resident of Dhani Basti Bhima in Fatehabad, guilty of committing a serious sexual offence against the minor.
According to the prosecution, the victim’s father had filed a complaint on October 13, 2024, at a local police post, alleging that the accused had been luring his daughter for several months by offering her food items while she was on her way to school.
The complaint stated that around 18 days before the report was filed, the accused forcibly took the girl to fields near Chilli Lake, where he sexually assaulted her and physically attacked her when she resisted. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
The police registered a case and arrested the accused on October 16. The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Raj Bala. After the accused was arrested, he confessed to the crime, the police said.
The prosecution was led by District Attorney Devender Mittal and Deputy District Attorney Jagsir Singh Brar in Fatehabad. Sharing details of the case, Mittal said after hearing arguments from both sides, the court gave priority to the seriousness of the crime over the convict’s young age and other circumstances.
The court sentenced Abhijeet under different sections of the law. He was awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. He was also given 10 years of RI and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 87 of the BNS, seven years of RI and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 137(2) of the BNS and three years of RI with a fine of Rs 20,000 under Section 12 of the POCSO Act.
The court said if the fine was not paid, the convict will have to serve additional imprisonment. Out of the total fine of Rs 170,000, Rs 1 lakh will be given to the victim as compensation. The remaining amount will be deposited in the state treasury as court costs.
