Man gets 20-yr-RI for raping minor
A man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 40,000 for the abduction and rape of a minor girl. The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar on Tuesday.
The case dates back to March 10, 2021, when a complaint was lodged at the Bilaspur police station regarding the abduction of a 14-year-old girl. Following this, an FIR was registered. The police identified and arrested the accused, Sohit Kumar, from his village in Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh. The victim was rescued and she alleged she had been raped by the accused. Subsequently, relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the FIR.
After his arrest, Sohit Kumar was placed in judicial custody as investigations progressed. The police gathered substantial evidence and witness statements against him, which were presented in court. Based on the chargesheet filed by the Gurugram police, Judge Ashwani Kumar handed down the sentence on Tuesday, underscoring the seriousness of the crime and the importance of justice for victims of sexual offences.
