PANIPAT: A 70-year-old man was beaten to death in Bursyam village in Samalkha on Monday while his wife was also thrashed in the incident.

A 70-year-old man was beaten to death in Bursyam village in Samalkha on Monday while his wife was also thrashed in the incident. The police have booked two persons, including their younger son and his brother in-law, for allegedly murdering the old man. The reason behind the murder is said to be land dispute in the family.

The deceased was identified as Bishan Singh, while his wife Omwati was also left injured.

Jagbeer Singh, elder son of the deceased, in his statement to the police alleged that his parents were living with him and his younger brother Narender Singh had land dispute with them. “Narender Singh along with his brother-in-law Mantri of Busana village in Sonipat district started cultivating on my parents’ share of land on Monday and when our mother opposed it he started quarreling with her. Meanwhile, my father reached the spot and intervened, but Narender and his brother-in-law beat up my father mercilessly, due to which he died on the spot”, he alleged.

His mother informed the police and Jagbeer Singh about the incident, while the accused managed to flee from the spot. The body of has been kept in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Inspector Gurwinder Singh, SHO, Samalkha, said a case had been registered against Narender and his brother-in-law.
